Hammer, meet the nail's head.
Sarkozy's comments had no other outcome in mind than his own aggrandisement.
Rhetoric can be used to achieve great things, winning over hearts and minds at a time of crisis.
Or alternatively you can use rhetoric to stir up hatred just so you get to sit on top of the woodpile until the bonfire really starts.
